'Cinema of Resistance' award for 'There was a Queen' 'There was a Queen' won 4th JOHN ABRAHAM NATIONAL AWARD for 'Cinema of Resistance' in SIGNS 2009- the Indian festival for features and non-features, held from Feb. 12th to 19th in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The Jury said 'the film depicts with courage, compassion and sensitivity the situation of the Kashmir valley in recent times and its tragic consequences on the lives of women living there. It combines actuality footage and interviews to give us a picture that seriously calls for debate and action in our society, often swayed by jingoistic, rhetoric and manipulative leadership'. The Jury consisting of noted filmmakers, was headed by Mr. Arun Khopkar, and Mr Chalam Bennurakar and B.Ajith Kumar as members. The world renowned filmmaker Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan presented the awards.
